Privacy Policy

Effective and last updated: 9 August 2026

This policy explains how Nestor Studios, based in the Netherlands, handles information when you use Ember Audiobook Player (“Ember”) or contact us for support.

Privacy at a glance

1. Information Ember uses on your device

To provide its features, Ember stores or uses the following information primarily on your device:

Ember reads selected files so it can scan, organize and play your audiobooks. Nestor Studios does not upload or host your audiobook audio files, artwork, listening positions, bookmarks, notes, tags or library organization. Ember has no Nestor Studios account system, cloud audiobook library or cloud-sync service.

2. Advertising and consent

The free version of Ember may display banner advertising provided by Google Mobile Ads (AdMob). Ember does not use interstitial, rewarded or app-open ads. Ember Premium is an optional one-time purchase that removes banner advertisements and their layout space.

Depending on your device, region, consent choices and Google's configuration, the Google Mobile Ads SDK may collect and share information such as:

Google may use this information for advertising or marketing, analytics, service operation, and fraud prevention or security. Data transmitted by Google's SDKs is encrypted in transit using Google's transport protections. Nestor Studios does not send your audiobook audio files to AdMob.

Where required, Ember uses Google's User Messaging Platform (UMP) to request and record advertising consent choices before requesting ads. The available choices depend on your region and Google's services. When Google indicates that a privacy-options entry point is required, you can reopen Privacy options from Ember's Settings. You may also be able to manage or reset advertising identifiers through Android settings.

Google handles advertising and consent information under its own privacy practices. See the Google Privacy Policy and Google's advertising and data information. Purchasing Premium stops Ember from requesting or displaying its banner ads, but does not erase information Google may already have processed under its policies.

3. Google Play Billing

Ember Premium is offered as a one-time Google Play in-app purchase, not a subscription. Google Play processes purchases, supplies Ember with product and ownership information, and handles eligible refunds under Google's rules. Ember may store a limited Premium entitlement cache on your device and communicates purchase information to Google Play to acknowledge or restore ownership.

Nestor Studios does not directly receive or store your payment-card, bank-account or Google account credentials. Google processes purchase and payment information under its own privacy policy and terms.

4. Backup, export and device transfer

Manual Ember backups and note exports are created only when you request them and are saved to a location you choose. Manual backups can include app information such as library metadata, progress, bookmarks, notes, tags, settings and listening history. They exclude audiobook audio files, cached Premium entitlement and Android folder-access permissions. You control and are responsible for exported files after saving them.

Android system backup or device transfer may copy an allowlisted part of Ember's app data through the backup service configured on your device. This can include Ember's local database and selected settings, library and bookmark data. Audiobook audio files, normal caches and Ember's Premium cache are excluded. A restored library may require you to grant folder access again. Android or Google backup services operate according to your device, account and provider settings.

5. Support communications

If you email Nestor Studios, we receive your email address and anything you choose to include. We use it to respond, troubleshoot, keep necessary business records and protect the service from misuse. Please do not send audiobook files, passwords, payment-card details or Google credentials.

Support correspondence is retained only as long as reasonably needed for these purposes or to meet legal obligations.

6. Sharing and sale

Ember's first-party app code does not upload your local audiobook library to Nestor Studios. Google may collect or receive advertising, consent, purchase and backup-related information through the services described above. Google may classify some advertising transfers as sharing under applicable platform or privacy-law definitions. Nestor Studios does not independently sell your audiobook files, listening history, notes or support contact information.

Information may also be disclosed if required by law or reasonably necessary to establish, exercise or defend legal claims.

7. Retention, deletion and choices

Local app information remains on your device until you remove it in Ember, clear Ember's app data or uninstall the app. Uninstalling or clearing app data does not delete audiobook source files from the storage location you selected. Files you export remain until you delete them. Data in Android system backup follows the backup provider's controls and retention.

Because Ember has no server-side user account, there is no Ember account to delete. You can change advertising consent choices through Privacy options where available. Requests concerning data handled by Google should be directed through Google's privacy controls.

8. Your privacy rights

Where data-protection law applies, you may have rights concerning personal data held by Nestor Studios, such as access, correction, deletion, restriction, objection or portability. You may also complain to your local supervisory authority; in the Netherlands this is the Autoriteit Persoonsgegevens. These rights may be limited where the law permits.

Most Ember information is held only on your device and is not accessible to Nestor Studios. To ask about support correspondence, contact us below.

9. Children

Ember is a general-audience audiobook utility and is not designed or directed specifically to children. Users provide their own audio content; Nestor Studios does not curate or supply an audiobook catalogue.

10. Security and policy changes

Ember relies on Android's storage and security controls, including the system file picker. Google SDK transmissions use encrypted transport where applicable. No method of storage or transmission can be guaranteed absolutely secure.

We may update this policy when Ember's features, providers or legal obligations change. The current version and update date will remain available on this page.
